Hand Made cards for Nursing Center Residents

While shadowing a physician at a nursing center, we observed that the residents feel real joy when connected with friends & family.  Pandemic changed those connections - Due to Pandemic seniors in nursing center were forced to be shut inside, thus unable to contact their family and friends.

"Isolation in the pandemic is hitting elderly people especially hard....." 2020 WSJ article.

"Restrictions/confinements, isolation/loneliness are top categories of stress amongst seniors" - study by Brenda Whitehead published in the Gerontologist.

We decided to make personalized handwritten cards and distributed those to the nursing centers as a way to remind them that we are with them - to bring them joy.

About 20 volunteers from multiple high school signed up and delivered over 250 cards to different nursing homes - Mountain Manor, Folsom Care Center, Brookdale

The response received was fantastic - All of the residents really enjoyed the cards and were happy with the personal connection through the cards.
